Dr. Emilia W. Pasiah MD is a board-certified physician practicing at St. Frances Medical Centre and Northridge Regional Medical Center in Los Angeles.
She is also the co-owner of HealthZen, a premier med-spa and wellness center in LA.
Speaking to The U.S. Sun, she shared beauty tips for eyebrows.
OIL ‘EM UP
Dr. Pasiah said seven natural ingredients can be applied topically to stimulate brow hair growth.
Among them are three oils that deliver impressive results when applied daily.
“Coconut oil contains lauric acid, which can protect hair and stimulate growth,” she said.
“Massage a few drops into your eyebrows before bed. “Rich in proteins, fatty acids, and antioxidants, castor oil can nourish hair follicles.
“Apply a small amount to your eyebrows with a cotton swab daily.
“Olive oil is packed with vitamins A and E, which can help condition and strengthen hair.
“Apply a few drops to your eyebrows and leave it on for a couple of hours before rinsing off.”
THIS TIP HAS LAYERS
Dr. Pasiah revealed there are three ingredients most people already have in their homes that can be equally effective for brow growth.
Surprisingly, among them is the juice of a vegetable that can be grown in your garden — but it might not smell great.
“Onion juice contains sulfur, which improves the production of collagen tissues required for hair growth,” she said.
“Apply extracted juice to eyebrows from a small onion, leave on for 15 minutes, and rinse.
DAIRY AISLE BROW CARE
Dr. Pasiah said that egg yolk is “rich in biotin” and can help with hair growth.
“Beat an egg yolk and apply it to your eyebrows. Leave it on for 20 minutes before rinsing off with lukewarm water,” she advised.
“Milk contains proteins and other nutrients that can promote hair growth.
“Dip a cotton ball in milk and apply it to your eyebrows. Leave it on for 15 minutes before rinsing off.”
Outside the dairy aisle, Dr. Pasiah said aloe vera is another natural remedy that has enzymes necessary for nourishing hair follicles and promoting growth.
She recommended applying fresh aloe vera gel to eyebrows for up to 30 minutes before washing off.
DOCTOR’S ORDERS
The medical doctor said Rogaine was originally designed for scalp hair growth.
However, the over-the-counter brand of minoxidil can also be used on eyebrows and is available as a liquid or foam.
She listed three other solutions to promote brow growth but said they require a prescription from a healthcare provider.
“Latisse (Bimatoprost) is an FDA-approved treatment for eyelash growth that can also be used off-label to enhance eyebrow growth,” she said.
“Compounded Minoxidil with Tretinoin formulation.
“Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections involve a person’s own platelet-rich plasma being injected into the eyebrows to stimulate hair growth in multiple sessions.”
Food for thought
Dr. Pasiah said a balanced diet and “targeted” supplementation can support eyebrow growth.
She said a 2.5mg dose of Biotin (vitamin B7) can be taken daily for hair growth.
“It helps to strengthen the keratin structure, a crucial protein in hair, skin, and nails,” she said.
“Vitamin E promotes hair health and prevents oxidative stress.
Can be applied directly as an oil or taken as a supplement – dosage: 15 mg daily.
“Vitamin C is necessary for collagen production, which is essential for healthy hair growth.
“Iron prevents hair loss due to anemia.
“ Zinc helps with tissue growth and repair – dosage: 8-11 mg daily.”
Dr. Pasiah recommended consulting with a healthcare professional if eyebrow hair loss continues to receive tailored treatment.
“It takes about 6 to 8 weeks on average for eyebrow hair to fully regrow after it has been plucked, waxed, or otherwise removed,” she said.
“The exact duration can vary based on individual factors such as age, health, and genetics.
“If the hair follicles are not damaged, they will generally follow this growth cycle.
“However, if there has been significant damage to the follicles, regrowth may take longer or might not occur at all.”
